My name is Sarah Rose Robertson, and I specialize in analogue film photography with a particular love for medium format film.

I took my first photography class during my senior year of high school and instantly fell in love. For an anxious teenager, spending hours in the darkroom beneath the hum of the red safety light made me feel safe in a way nothing else in my life ever had. It was there that I first began to realize I had a voice - and that what I had to say had value, that I had value.

My work explores concepts of faith, fear, and family. Most deeply, I am drawn to the idea of connection and the ways humans are intertwined with one another. I feel a strong call to help empower people to find their voice. I hope my photography gives a voice to the people I photograph because, in reality, they are the ones telling the story - I am simply the one holding the camera.

The truth is that all photography is collaborative. Every photograph exists because of trust, vulnerability, and a willingness to be seen. I remain endlessly grateful for the people who choose to explore alongside me.

Most of my work is created on black and white film. Film itself feels deeply connected to the themes I explore in my work. A piece of film must be carefully exposed, developed, and printed before it can reveal what it has captured. Much like human relationships, film demands presence and nurturing throughout the process in order to create something honest and real.

Outside of photography, I also work as an emergency department nurse. In many ways, nursing and photography feel deeply interconnected to me. Both ask me to witness people honestly during vulnerable moments. Whether through a camera or at the bedside, I am interested in helping people feel seen, heard, and understood.
