Ed and Juana

Meet my Uncle Ed and Aunt Juana. If I’m being honest - it’s actually my great Uncle Ed and my great Aunt Juana but they’ve always felt like a regular aunt and uncle to me. I can’t remember when I first met them because they’ve always been there. When I was younger they lived in a trailer on my grandpa’s property for a time while their house was being built in Montana. At the time I was probably eight or nine and I loved seeing them when I went out to my grandparents farm. Ed would yell at me, “Hey Squirt - get over here.” which is his way of saying “Hey kid, come over here and spend some time with me." Aunt Juana has always been warm and inviting. I remember when she was growing a little garden in front of their trailer, I remember the way she delicately handle the plants as she pruned them. Juana has a quiet strength about her and I have always loved to be around that.

Last summer (summer 2021) my family and I were able to make a little stop at Ed and Juana’s on our road trip up to Canada. In true Juana hospitality she set us up with a nice guest room to sleep in, a dinner made for us, homemade breakfast in the morning, and she sent us on our way with huckleberry jam and salmon she had canned herself. It was wonderful to spend some time with these two and finally have them meet my kids. After spending many hours catching up and hearing of Ed’s wild younger days in Butte, Montana I asked if I could snap a few portraits of the two of them together. I love photographing my family and to capture these two after fifty years of marriage together is a moment I will remember for a long time to come.

Rae and Kristen

Kristen_Raeann014.jpg

It’s not often you meet people who are just genuinely good. But that’s just how Kristen and Rae are. They are just good people. I met Kristen and Rae at a neighbor barbecue nearly two years ago and I instantly loved them both. These two have such a kindness about them. They are just genuinely sweet and lovely people. Hearing them talk about how they met each other in college is adorable. Just a few months after I met these two, they tied the knot! As my wedding gift I offered to photograph their little family. We met up in the beautiful mountains on a August afternoon and I am so glad we did. Getting to photograph these two (and their cutie dog Izzy) was such an honor. I hope we can all strive to be a little like Rae and Kristen by being just a bit more kind to each other. [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Carter Family - Home Session

Carter_BW006.jpg

These people mean so much to me. Brooke and Christian were some of our very first friends we made when we were newly weds. We’ve been able to maintain our friendship over the years and most of the time they feel like family rather than friends. Our dear friend Brooke was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer a few years ago. She’s been fighting the good fight but recently the Carters decided it was the right time to be closer to family and move to Arizona. Before they moved away it just seemed right to document them as a family in their very own home. It’s amazing how we shape the space we live in. Capturing them was a joy. I really am so grateful that the Carters are part of my life. [Shot on TriX 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Jessica - Ceramic Artist

PluharCeramics_005.jpg

My senior year of high school I decided to take a photography class. Jessica was my instructor. She opened my eyes to the world and helped me recognize that I had a voice. I will forever be grateful for her influence in my life. When she isn't inspiring the minds of youth she is running an exceptional pottery business. I am a huge fan of her work and I would highly encourage you all to go check out her pottery! [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Kitty + Spencer Bridals

Kitty+Spencer_050.jpg

Kitty came into my life only a few years ago but boy has she made an impact on me. She has such a pure heart and I am grateful to call her family. Spending time with her and her soon to be husband Spencer was such a sweet experience. They are young and in love and just perfectly paired. Kitty is originally from China and so she wanted a few photos in her traditional red dress as well as her white “American” dress. Congratulations Kitty and Spencer - may you marriage be full of happiness and love!

Erica + Aaron

Aaron_Erica_031_RE.jpg

Erica is a brilliant documentary photographer and world traveler. Aaron is a skilled rock climber and outdoorsman. I feel like these two are always off somewhere doing something spectacular in nature. These two are hippies at their core and I love that. Shooting this chill couple in the mountains of Utah in a field full of wild flowers just felt right.  [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Victoria - Fashion Illustrator

Victoria_ArtWork_001 copy.jpg

I met Victoria my very first semester of college in my english class. I was so shy that I think we maybe spoke a total of 10 words to each other the whole semester. It wasn't until my last semester of my senior year that we reconnected. I am so glad we did. Victoria is one of the most talented people I know. She has the most incredible fashion illustrations that you can check out here.  We spent the afternoon shooting for the rebrand of her website. I am so happy with how these images turned out! [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Carter Family

CarterFamily_RE_065.jpg

I can't even begin to describe how much I love the Carter Family. We met these guys back in the fall of 2012. Keaton and I had been married a week and had just moved to Washington DC. Brooke and Christian were also newly weds and we instantly bonded. Our first hangout involved Shake Shack and an Indie concert at the Kennedy Center. I remember as we walked home we talked about how we hoped the friendships we made while interning would last a life time. We have been fortunate enough to maintain a friendship with these guys over the years. Brooke and Christian and their two littles are just some of the best people you will ever meet. They are unfailingly kind, loyal, and incredibly hilarious. I am so grateful they are in my life.  [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Beus Family

BeusFamily_005_RE.jpg

I met Heather and Tyler in my junior year of college. Back then they were just "best friends." Since then they have been pretty busy - falling in love, running a really rad videography business, and starting a family. It was such a blast catching up with them and hearing about their lives. I am so glad I was able to reconnect and spend the afternoon with their little family. [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Cornwall Family

CornwallFamily_037_RE.jpg

I wish you all knew Reesa and Jeff. These two are a dream team. Reesa is an awesome mom by day and a yoga queen by night. Jeff teaches art to the youth of America and loves to cycle. I am so impressed by their kindness and their genuine care for the people around them. I'm so fortunate that they were kind enough to let me photograph them. [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]

Amy + Bruce Bridals

Amy+Bruce_015.jpg

Amy and Bruce are some of the kindest people I have ever met. They both exude quiet confidence. It was so cute to see their tender affection for one another. Photographing them near the Soldier Hollow area was the perfect venue to capture their genuine love for one another.  [Shot on Portra 400 taken with a Mamiya 645]
